Hampshire has one of the busiest stretches of boating water in the country — the Solent, Southampton Water and the Hamble River hold a huge concentration of marinas, boatyards and sailing clubs. Marine equipment transport here often means moving a boat to or from a marina for a lift-out, delivering a new purchase from a dealer or the Southampton International Boat Show, or taking a boat inland for winter storage away from the salt air. We move it on our own trailer or the boat’s own, behind a VW Touareg rated to tow up to 3,500 kg braked, one driver the whole way — no depots, no handovers.
Boat and marine equipment transport across Hampshire
Hampshire’s boating centres on the Solent shore — Southampton, the Hamble, Portsmouth Harbour and Lymington — but there is plenty of inland trailer work too, moving dinghies and RIBs between clubs, driveways and the coast as the season starts and ends. We handle RIBs, day boats, dinghies, kayaks, jet skis and trailer sailers, along with outboards, cradles and covers that need to travel with the boat.
Where we collect and deliver in Hampshire
Typical collection and delivery points across the county include:
- The Hamble River — Port Hamble, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Universal Marina and Swanwick Marina
- Southampton — Ocean Village Marina, Town Quay and the docks area, plus the Southampton International Boat Show at Mayflower Park
- Lymington — Lymington Yacht Haven and Berthon’s yard on the Lymington River
- Gosport and Portsmouth Harbour — Royal Clarence Marina, Haslar Marina and Gunwharf Quays
- Chichester Harbour’s Hampshire shore around Emsworth
- Inland sailing clubs and home storage around Winchester, Basingstoke and the New Forest
We also collect from private moorings, driveways and boatyards mid-season and at lift-out time, taking a boat as readily off a hard-standing at Swanwick as out of a garden in Alton. See areas we cover for the wider picture.
What we move
RIBs and day boats
Solent-based RIBs and day boats up to around 7-8 m on their own trailer, or ours, bunks and winch set correctly for the hull.
Dinghies, kayaks and canoes
Sailing dinghies, kayaks and canoes for clubs on the Hamble, Southampton Water and inland waters, often several boats in one run.
Jet skis
Jet skis on their own trailer or ours, secured and photographed at collection and delivery.
Trailer sailers and small cruisers
Small yachts and cruisers within our towing limit, collected from a marina hard-standing or private mooring for onward road transport.
For anything that isn’t a boat but still needs a trailer — a digger onto a New Forest site, a hot tub into a garden, a classic car to a show — see our plant and machinery transport, hot tub transport and classic car transport pages.
How much does boat transport in Hampshire cost?
Local moves within Hampshire typically start from around £150; longer runs, out of the county down to the West Country or across to the Isle of Wight, are quoted per mile. Price depends on distance, boat length and weight, whether it already has a road-legal trailer, and access at each end. Every quote is all-in — fuel, tolls and loading included.
What moves a price up or down: a lift-out slot booked at a marina like Swanwick or Universal, boat show week around Southampton when roads and marina traffic are busier, and whether the collection point sits on a tidal hard-standing with a limited access window.
Access, roads and timing in Hampshire
The M27 runs the length of the Solent shore and links into the M3 and A3(M), so most marina runs are straightforward. The last mile needs more care: lanes into Warsash, Bursledon and Lymington get tight in summer, and Southampton’s dock roads are busiest during the Boat Show. New Forest roads carry restrictions around grazing animals, so we allow extra time crossing that stretch, and we plan around marina lift-out and Boat Show schedules.
Do you cover the whole of Hampshire, including the Hamble and Lymington?
Yes. We collect and deliver anywhere in Hampshire, from the Solent shore around the Hamble and Lymington to inland towns such as Winchester, Basingstoke and Andover.
Can you collect a boat bought at the Southampton International Boat Show?
Yes, we regularly work around show and dealer collection windows at Mayflower Park and the surrounding marinas, timing the road transport to suit.
Do you cover the Isle of Wight crossing too?
Yes — see our Isle of Wight boat transport page for ferry-linked moves between the mainland and the island.
What if my boat doesn’t have its own trailer?
We carry a boat trailer with bunks and a winch and can load a hull with no road trailer of its own, as well as boats already sitting on a trailer.
